Weary, Wary Nation

Tides of hope that flow and ebb
Bear our dreams on washing waves
Twisting taut in time’s own web,
Pray that “Change” the nation saves.

Now uncertain, and unbound,
Futures all await their guide.
Fortunes cling to practice sound
Taking change in careful stride.

Can a man fulfill a dream?
Or the dream become the man?
Headfirst now, and bearing steam,
We shall see if, “Yes, he can.”
