El Presidente

No, not Barack Obama--ME! I was just elected President of our local (and new) Friends of the Library Association. What does that mean? Basically I'll be in charge of setting up and running events for our new non-profit (tax exempt) FOTL association, publicity, etc.

Anyone know how to get free books? If you've got books to get rid of, you can always send them to the Friends of the Highgate Library Association, c/o little old me. :)

Congratulations on your election! And God bless you for volunteering to help out your local library.

Speaking as a librarian currently celebrating 20 years in the field -- If you advertise that you're collecting books for a book sale, people will come out of the woodwork with boxes upon boxes upon (sometimes moldy, dank, smelly) boxes of books they've been hoarding for millennia. Trust me, getting free books is not a problem.

The problem, of course, then becomes what to do with the ones that are unsalable -- encyclopedias from 1947, cases of National Geographic magazines, 50 years of Readers Digest condensed books, books with front covers ripped off, illustrations defaced, mold in the seams, etc. (Hint: There's a great place you can dump all of those. It rhymes with Flumpster.)
